Hide all Apartment Life Clothes, Hair and Hats

Date: October 10, 2008
Description: These files will hide all the hair, clothes and hats that came with Apartment Life from the game catalog and Bodyshop. They will also prevent those items from being used by new townies, NPC's and randomly generated CAS Sims. Existing Sims should not be affected, and the hidden content can still be found and selected in debug mode.

There is one file each for clothing, hats and non-hat hair.

See also my other hiders on this page, and Jordi's and others for earlier EP's and SP's, found here:

Maxis Floor Hiders

Date: March 12, 2008
Description: I'm slightly more forgiving of Maxis floors than the walls, but I still found a bunch I didn't want in my game. This file kills about ninety ugly floors from the base game through Free Time (it shouldn't hurt anything to use it if you don't have all the EP's installed.)

As with my wall hiders, hidden floors will remain in any lot in which they have been used, but will not appear in the catalog and will not be selectable with the eyedropper tool. To unhide a floor you like, fire up the game without the mod in and find the name of the floor in the catalog, then open the hider file in SimPE and delete the Object XML line with the name of the floor you want, and save.

Hide All Bon Voyage Clothes, Hair and Hats

Date: February 5, 2008
Description:

Since Jordi (who gets full credit for the idea) appears to have gone on indefinite hiatus and never made a hider for the Bon Voyage gear, I put these together.

These files will hide all the hair, clothes and hats that came with Bon Voyage from the game catalog and Bodyshop. They will also prevent those items from being used by new townies, NPC's and randomly generated CAS Sims. Existing Sims should not be affected, and the hidden content can still be found and selected in debug mode.

There is one file each for clothing, hats and non-hat hair. They all work fine for me and my testers; please let me know if you experience any problems.

Revised Hair and Clothing Hider - Base Game Through BV

Date: February 2, 2008
Description: This mod is basically a refinement of Jordi's Maxis hair and clothing hiders at MTS2 (and is published in accordance with the Creative Commons license Jordi uses.)

Jordi's original mods just 'hide' everything from the base game through Seasons, but I like some of the Maxis stuff well enough to keep it. So I went through and deleted a lot of the hide information, leaving only the really bizarre or ugly stuff hidden. Of course, 'ugly' is highly subjective. YMMV.

I also combined all the remaining hide information into one file and added a few items from Bon Voyage, which Jordi never seems to have got around to doing. Please Note: I don't think using this file in a game configuration which does not include all six EP's should harm your game, but I can't guarantee it, so caveat emptor. If you would like to try it out and let me know how it goes, please do!

What's Hidden: If I felt that an average person walking down an average street on an average day would see the item and go "Bzuh?" I hid it. If it was lime green or some other garish color, I hid it. If I could not picture anyone wearing it to anything but a costume party, I hid it. If it looked slovenly or excessive or sluttish or tacky, it went. Hidden items still exist in the game and will not disappear from any Sims currently using them, but they will not be visible in the catalog and will not turn up on new townies, NPC's, or random CAS Sims.

What's left (for the most part) is the ordinary, everyday hair and clothes you might see on anyone, anywhere. Mainly, it's boring. Which to my mind is quite suitable for townies. :p There's a few oddball items still visible that I found appealing for whatever reason. (I'd have nuked all the teen girl tops that don't meet the waistbands of their pants, but then the girls would have nothing to wear.) ><

If I killed an outfit or a hairstyle you like, and you are comfortable using boolprop and SimPE, you can get it back by following these instructions:
  1. Start the game.
  2. Activate debug mode by typing: boolprop testingCheatsEnabled true in the cheat box, exactly as it appears here.
  3. Enter CAS while holding down Shift-N.
  4. Go through the CAS catalog and find the item you want. Jot down the name of the item, which should appear along with a bunch of other information when you hover your mouse over the thumbnail.
  5. Close down the game and open my mod file with SimPE.
  6. In the Resource List pane, find the name of the Property Set(s) corresponding to the item you want to unhide; right-click and delete it (or them. Especially for hair, there may be several. Many items names are similar, so be very careful to make sure you've got the one you want.)
  7. Commit and save the file.

Maxis Wall Hiders

Date: March 12, 2008
Description: **UPDATED** Now includes hiders for Bon Voyage and Free Time walls. I also killed a few more from some of the other EP's. (Also see my Gingham Shmingham Walls and Walls Sans Rooster.)

---

These files will "hide" selected Maxis walls (prevent them from showing up in the catalog.) The hidden walls will still show up on any houses which use them, but will not be selectable with the eyedropper tool. Just unzip the files that correspond to the EP's you have installed into your Downloads folder.

These do not hide all the Maxis walls, just those I personally find objectionable, so feel free to pick them apart and alter them in any way you like. You can unhide any wall you want back by opening the file in SimPE and deleting the Object XML line with that wall's name.

What's hidden: 223 Maxis walls from the base game through Seasons (not the Stuff Packs, unfortunately.) Anything that struck me as excessively gaudy, tacky, tasteless, useless, busy, poorly tiled, unattractively colored, most sports- and space-themed stuff and animal prints, and any I just plain didn't like for whatever reason. YMMV.

Thanks to SaraMK for explaining how to make this work.
